How to care

Wash less, air more. Natural fibres last longest when they are washed only when they need it.

Cotton poplin

Gentle machine wash cold with similar colours, inside out and in a garment bag so the buttons do not chip. Do not bleach. Warm iron.

Denim

Wash rarely. Machine wash cold with similar colours, do not bleach, warm iron, do not dry clean.

Cold gentle wash, line dry, warm iron.

Every piece

Washing
Cold, gentle cycle or by hand, with a mild detergent. Turn embroidered and stitched pieces inside out. Never bleach.
Drying
Line dry in shade, or flat for the heavier cottons. No tumble dryer: it is the fastest way to shrink a natural fibre and loosen hand stitching.
Ironing
Warm iron. Iron embroidery and French knots from the reverse, on a towel, so the stitches keep their height.
Storing
Fold the knits, hang the wovens on a wooden hanger. Give lace and cutwork a little room so nothing snags.
Mother-of-pearl buttons
Real shell can chip in a machine. Do the buttons up before washing, and skip the dryer.
